Some goals for volunteers to consider:
To assist in providing compassionate care to the Indonesian people in the name of Jesus. To learn about another culture and learn to respect and understand its differences and rich traditions. To teach career Indonesian hospital staff more about their matching area of expertise.
General guidelines for volunteering:
The volunteer will be expected to pay for all travel expenses (approximately $1500 round trip from LA to Pontianak, as of December 2005) The volunteer is expected to pay for daily living expenses ($10-$15/day for food, lodging, laundry). The volunteer should be sensitive and prepared to adapt to the cultural and and community norms of behavior, dress, gender relationships, and speech. Volunteers who plan to stay longer than 4 weeks should be prepared to learn some Indonesian, and may need to be processed through WorldVenture (formerly CBInternational) to be designated as an official short term mission volunteer.
